Dear Members: Good morning! Market Update: Friday was about as raw a day as we've seen in a while, just as the bulls were hoping to clear some key technical levels only to see the bears come out in full force to take control of the action. Whatever confidence traders had for a sustained rally pretty much went down the tubes and in spite of today's bounce the technical advantage lies squarely with the bears. We should pay particular attention to the VIX which is higher today in spite of the rise in the market. That's a clear signal that traders don't have much confidence in the market in the near term. Though the S&P did not quite touch the most recent low of 2822, it got close. So that is a key level to watch. More importantly is the 200 day moving average, currently at 2803, a level the S&P has not been below since the beginning of June. Will it ultimately get there? I think there's a decent chance. I'm certainly going to be watching to see how the market closes today and opens tomorrow. With all of the instability "out there" traders are going to go out of their way to protect their capital which right now should be priority number one.
