December 2025

EB Daily Market Report - Brief Update - Tuesday, December 30, 2025

Tom Bowley -

It has been a very quiet few sessions lately in the stock market with very little volatility. After moving up to within roughly 0.8% of 7000, the S&P 500 has backed off the past few sessions and now trades near 6900.

Over the past week, 7 sectors are up, led by real estate (XLRE, +1.14%) and energy (XLE, +1.11%). However, among the 4 sectors that have moved lower, consumer discretionary (XLY, -1.43%) leads as Tesla (TSLA) is threatening to drop for the 5th consecutive day. There's been light volume nearly everywhere, so it's very difficult to come to any major conclusions about the action.

There's just one trading day left in 2025, so here are the best and worst performers of the S&P 500 on a year-to-date basis:

Here's how the 2025 leaders and laggards stack up on the NASDAQ 100:

Unless something big happens tomorrow, our next report will be on Friday, January 2nd.
