EB Watch List Update Report

John Hopkins -
Dear Members: MARKET UPDATE Yesterday looked like the bears might regain control of the market, with the VIX spiking sharply, but once again traders looked at the move lower as an opportunity to jump in on the long side with many of the losses regained by day's end. Importantly both the NASDAQ and S&P closed back above all key technical levels with only the Dow struggling to recapture its 20 day moving average. Though the market has steadied some the VIX is higher today and back above all key technical levels, showing some nervousness in spite of yesterday's recovery. Gold remains at elevated levels while government bond yields remain at the low end of the spectrum. It does look like bond yields have gotten to a level where they could be putting in a near term bottom but the possibility still exists that they could move lower, especially if investors continue to move assets into what they see as safer financial instruments. For sure this is a good time to be vigilant. September can be rough on stocks and the VIX is showing us that traders have one to two fingers on the sell button. So it makes sense to be very selective here. In the meantime the bulls know it is important to hold the S&P above 20/50 day moving averages which are in the 2454 range as a close below that level could spell some trouble.
