EB Watch List Update Report

John Hopkins -
Dear Members: First, Tom Bowley and I will be conducting a Webinar today at 4:30 pm eastern where we will take a look at what might lie ahead in 2018, keying in on sectors that could be strong. All members are invited to attend and room instructions will be sent out this afternoon prior to the event. The webinar will be recorded as well for those who are unable to attend the live event. Hope you can join us! Market Update: We've got a new trading day and week under way and so far a mixed picture with the NASDAQ higher while the Dow and S&P are lower. We entered the week with the market very stretched; a pause is certainly in order and would be welcomed by those who would much prefer to buy stocks on a pullback rather than at such lofty levels. The VIX has perked up a bit, up almost 5%, perhaps in recognition that traders do realize it's tough to chase most stocks here. But it's also true that stocks are holding up quite well with the bulls thinking if this is what a pullback looks like, they'll take it. Interestingly, earnings season will begin in earnest this week with three major banks reporting their numbers on Friday. Then starting next week the earnings flood gates will open with thousands of companies expected to report over the next 3-4 weeks. So it could well be that traders are willing to hold on to their stocks until they get a better sense of how overall earnings come out, even though expectations are high. In other words, the market is giving the benefit of the doubt to the bulls here until proven otherwise.
