EB Watch List Update Report

Dear Members: Market Update: The market is showing some resiliency here with the NASDAQ up nicely while the S&P is trying to move into positive territory as well. The Dow is lagging thanks to Walmart, down almost 10% on an earnings miss and showing there is little tolerance for those companies that miss their numbers. The VIX is higher by 3% as traders remain hesitant to get overly aggressive to the long side. Both the NASDAQ and S&P are back above all key technical levels. The bulls might be able to keep momentum going if they can close the S&P back above the 50 day, currently at 2727. It was above that level early on before pulling back some and then rebounding. Bottom line is we've got a mixed picture today with the VIX showing continued concern. So I don't see any reason to get aggressively long here; maybe a bit of nibbling on a VERY selective basis and then with very tight stops. Right now the S&P will need to clear Friday's high which was 2754, but that could prove to be challenging. To the downside there should be support near 2700. The market could go higher but I think in the very near term it's going to be more like pulling teeth. The market has run a lot since the recent bottom. Maybe there's some additional room to the upside but I think it's very limited. So adding stocks to the Watch List at this moment could prove to be frustrating; i.e., I would much rather get involved if it looked like there was a lot more upside potential than there is at the moment.
