EB Watch List Update Report

John Hopkins -
Dear Members: Market Update: There are a handful of tech stocks traders can't get enough of these days like Netflix, Micron Technologies, Amazon and Apple that seem to advance/hold up irrespective of the overall market action. Then there's the other thousands of stocks that seem to be trading sideways as the market goes nowhere fast. In fact, if you go back to January 3 the S&P closed at 2713, or within a few points of today's low. Interestingly, the VIX was in the 8's right at the beginning of the year compared to now where it's at 13 showing confidence is lower today then a few months back and maybe helping to explain why the market is stuck. Now we've got a three day holiday weekend coming up with traders shying away from stocks, not knowing what news they might wake up to come next Tuesday morning. The charts on the major indexes show the bulls have the slight edge but not by much. In other words, the reward to risk isn't all that high here. In fact the S&P is now trading right in the middle of the current trading range of 2742 to the upside and 2700 to the downside showing a continuing stalemate. It's quite possible that we'll continue to trade in this tight range for the foreseeable future and until something develops that breaks the tie and especially today with the long weekend looming. So sitting on some additional cash is still not a bad strategy.
