EB Watch List Update Report

John Hopkins -
Dear Members: Market Update The mid-term elections are over and traders seem to be pleased with the results with all of the major indexes higher. The VIX shows a collective sigh of relief as it is down 12%, back below its 20 day moving average and coming close to testing its 50 day earlier in the session. Though the NASDAQ on a percentage basis is up more than either the Dow or S&P it so far remains below its 200 day, currently at 7519, which it moved above earlier in the session. Now if it can close above that level it would have to be seen as bullish. Of course everyone will be wondering if the early gains can hold; that's been a bit more challenging lately. But if the S&P can remain above its 200 day, currently at 2763, the next key level of support is at 2816. Tomorrow we'll hear from the Fed; what might they be thinking about interest rates? It's the next wall of worry traders will need to climb. We do need to keep things in perspective here; there's been a lot of technical damage going back to early October and the NASDAQ is still over 7% off of its October 1 high. That means there's plenty of room for the market to climb if traders sense a bottom is in. But if traders sense that what they're seeing is only a relief rally we could just as easily see the recent gains evaporate. Bottom line: it's good to see stocks showing some life but still not a time to go all in.
