EB Watch List Update Report
Dear Members:
First, Tom Bowley and I will be conducting our "2019 Market Outlook - Year End and Beyond" webinar this Wednesday, December 19 at 4:30 pm eastern. This is a timely event where we'll look at the overall market and discuss where it could be headed in the near term and into 2019. We'll also spend a lot of time discussing our Strong Earnings Chart List (Candidate Tracker) and which stocks look the strongest/weakest. There's no need for you to register and you will receive room instructions prior to the event. Also it will be recorded for those of you unable to attend the live presentation.
Market Update:
If there was ever a time for the bulls to take a stand today is it. We saw a full retest of the April lows on the NASDAQ and while the S&P didn't quite pullback to its April low it got within striking range. Now with the NASDAQ turning green the bulls have an opportunity to turn things around and in fact a possibility to declare a near term bottom as we enter a very bullish time of the year. It's no surprise that the VIX is higher today but one positive is it's quite a bit lower than the most recent highs even with the overall market lower. Could this be another indication that traders might be ready to put some funds to work on the long side? You can bet the bears won't lie down easily but they've already done plenty of damage. A few other things. First, the Fed will make its interest rate decision and announcement this week with the market already sending a message to slow down. We've also got options expiration Friday coming up; there are a ton of index puts that expire on Friday that could cost market makers a lot of money unless the market recovers some. Bottom line for now is if the bulls can hold and even build on gains today that would have to be seen as a positive. On the flip side if traders give it all back by day's end then we could indeed see further selling.
