Market Update:
The bulls are doing everything possible to keep the market from pulling back in any substantial way and so far are doing a decent job. But we saw once again yesterday that the S&P moved right up to key resistance and failed to break out. The strength in the market since the late December bottom has been undeniable with virtually no correction to speak of. But the VIX is starting to show some nervousness creeping back into the market as traders turn more cautious after the non-stop move higher. Yesterday's early selling and late day recovery follows a pattern we've seen for the past few months; the bears have been unable to inflict any serious damage as traders continue to buy on any dips. But the Dow did test its 20 day moving average for the first time in two months before bouncing and the S&P did pull back hard when it got within a fraction of a point of that key resistance level near 2817. It's still hard to bet against the bulls here; the bid underneath the market remains strong. But at some point we could see the selling stick which could change the narrative and give the bears more to work with. Right now key resistance on the S&P remains 2817 while support is right near 2750. It's possible we'll remain in consolidation mode for a while until traders find the next impetus to go long or short. It's a tricky level to do much trading and even though the bulls must be respected the overall sentiment could change quickly.
