EB Watch List Update Report
Dear Members:
Market Update:
Stocks got off to a strong start this morning but are currently off session highs as we begin a new trading day and week. Recently the bears have not had any answers to the march higher in stocks. And when the two largest market cap companies in the world continue to move higher the market has a good shot at climbing higher as well. The bears might point to the fact that the VIX is higher by almost 5% today in spite of stocks being higher; that's generally a warning sign that stocks have gotten ahead of themselves. But try convincing traders to short the market here; that's been a losing proposition. Still, the VIX is worth watching. For sure Apple and Microsoft - the two largest market cap companies on the planet - are stretched. In the case of AAPL its just beneath its 200 day moving average - a level it has not crossed above in four months - and its risen over 11% in just over a week. And MSFT has hit an all time high, up over 8% in the same time frame, with both stocks up for a seventh straight session. But when the market has its head down stocks can remain overbought with the caveat that sooner or later there could be a decent price to pay. I did notice that stocks started to stumble some Friday into the close; maybe that was due to triple witching options expiration ahead of the weekend. And the S&P did close at a new near term high which is what the bulls have been aiming for. So maybe today's close will give us some new clues; will we see some added strength by day's end or is the VIX sending a message and will traders start taking some profits off the table? We'll know in another 4-5 hours with the bulls needing to be respected until something happens to change the current, positive narrative.
