EB Watch List Update Report

Dear Members: Market Update: We've got a new trading day, week and month and so far the bulls like what they see with all of the major indexes higher. What stands out today is the market is higher in spite of much weaker than expected retail sales; even bad news is good news these days. One thing I've noticed - though it might be secondary compared to the market action - is the VIX is flat in spite of today's nice rally. Generally when all of the major indexes are up nicely the VIX is lower. So there could be some skepticism about the early gains and it's coming just as the S&P comes up against key resistance at 2860, the March 21 high. One other observation as well. Some of the key stocks that drove the market to its March 21 high - AAPL, FB, GOOGL, NFLX, to name just a few, are well off their respective highs from when the S&P made its last peak. This might be seen as a positive with other stocks carrying the load. But its hard to imagine the market advancing a lot higher with some of the key leaders lagging. Later this week we'll get the monthly non-farm payroll report which will be watch carefully given the big miss last month. Even then the market shook that off. Bottom line is the bulls have managed to keep the advantage ever since the late December bottom and here they are again with the S&P threatening to make a leg higher with the next level of resistance at 2874. The momentum is certainly strong so barring a sudden reversal to the downside the bulls must be respected.
