Market Update
The bulls should be pleased this morning as we begin a new trading day and week with all of the major indexes higher. The pattern we've seen of late continues with the market in consolidation mode; S&P battling 2900 and NASDAQ battling its 50 day from underneath with the VIX consolidating between all key technical levels. Overall it should be seen as a positive - the bears are having their own struggles trying to put a dent in the market - but the churning continues to make it challenging for individual stocks to advance in any significant way. This week brings with it the Federal Reserve's interest rate decision on Wednesday. The market's insistence for a rate cut could pay off down the road but the Fed is unlikely to cut rates at this week's meeting. Still, traders will be looking for any magic words that might indicate a cut will be coming sooner rather than later. The bulls know they need to clear 2900 then last week's high of 2910 to make further progress while 2874, the 50 day moving average, is now key technical support. Until one of those goes expect more of the same.
