There could also be some nervousness about what might happen once the Fed makes its rate announcement tomorrow afternoon. Will .25 satisfy the bulls? What happens if there is a surprise .50 rate decrease? Maybe the uncertainty is putting traders in a more cautious mood. We are seeing a spike in the VIX, up another 6% today and back above the 20 day moving average indicating traders are being more careful here. Another biggie; Apple reports its earnings after the bell tonight. AAPL's results always matter; they are the largest Market Cap company in the world and their tentacles are far reaching. On the plus side, all of the major indexes remain above all key technical levels; the bulls still have the upper hand. But between AAPL's earnings, the Fed rate decision tomorrow and then, Friday's non-farm payroll report, you can expect an increase in volatility. On the S&P 3027 is now resistance with 3000 support; exactly where it got to today before bouncing. Below that 2990, the 20 day moving average.
