This move higher certainly comes at a good time for the bulls with the 20 day moving average now below the 50 day on the S&P. That crossover is often a bearish signal thus the bulls are working hard to hold the line. But just like the bulls stepped up where they needed to when they had total control of the market, the bears are very aware of key resistance levels, witness the high of the day on the S&P of 2943 which also happens to be the 50 day moving average where some selling kicked in. The VIX is lower by 11% today but it's still above all key technical levels; one to two fingers on the sell button "just in case." Once again we're going to need to watch to see if the early gains hold and if the bulls get something to build on. But unless the bulls can actually work their magic to get the S&P and NASDAQ back above their respective 20 and 50 day moving averages, we'll need to continue to err on the side of caution as stocks could get cheaper which could create even better opportunities.
