Market Update:
I'm going to start with something a bit different today. It has to do with our Trade Alerts because with many new members they are wondering why the Watch List section is empty. It's a good question because that is where we post the details on stocks we send out as trade Alerts so if there's nothing in that section that means no active trade alerts. Just to give you some perspective, we had a few alerts out leading into last week that stopped out. Just before that we had a few nice winners, so some offset. But the number of alerts has gone down. Why? Check out volatility. Look at yesterday, look at today. All was well yesterday, everything is horrible today. So you know, there are times when we have as many as 5-7 trade alerts out at once. But that has to be a very favorable period. We also get questions about shorting stocks. We will consider that when market sentiment has changed. It hasn't. It's correcting some at the moment. And our experience overall has been mixed at best when shorting; trying to bet against stocks in a bull market is usually a frustrating and losing proposition. But we still need to respect the charts and right now the bears have control of the market. We've got the 20 day crossing below the 50 day on all of the major indexes with a VIX flashing caution signals. This doesn't mean we won't be able to find some diamonds in the rough but it means the bigger scores are harder to come by and the stops can be triggered faster. Bottom line: we need to preserve capital and be prepared to take advantage of even lower prices. If we miss some upside that's OK. And who knows; all could be good again tomorrow!
Now, as far as the market goes the S&P needs to close back above both its 20 and 50 day moving averages, so over 2945. Unless that happens the bears keep control. To the downside the most recent low was 2822; that's support. So we'll continue to monitor, keep everyone posted and be patient until the reward to risk is firmly on our side.
