EB Watch List Update Report

John Hopkins -
Good morning! Market Update: The recent bull checklist has been something like this. First, stop the bleeding; check. Hold the 200 day on any selling; check. Next, get the VIX below 20; check. Clear the 20 day moving average on any rebound; check. Clear the 50 day moving average to regain control of the market; still in progress. This last checklist item was in sight this morning as the S&P got to 2940 before pulling back some with the 50 day at 2945. And the 50 day could well end up being the "line in the sand" for both the bulls and the bears, especially as the month of August comes to an end and we enter the historically weak month of September and ahead of a long holiday weekend. In fact, one item that so far has cleared the checklist - the 20 day - currently at 2907 - really needs to hold here for the bulls to have at least some technical advantage. Because if that goes it could quickly lead to more traders heading to the sidelines. The bounce has been nice but we will continue to proceed with caution.
