EB WATCH LIST UPDATE REPORT
Dear Members:
MARKET NOTE:
The bulls have been looking for a strong day and they are getting it today with all of the major indexes higher. Progress in Greece has been cited as a primary reason for the positive action which has been extended to markets across the globe. The bulls did manage to hold the line close to the 200 day moving average on the S&P and today all of the major indexes are trying to climb back above other key moving averages. Also noticeable; the VIX is down another 15% as fears ease. The move higher today also comes in spite of a boost in the US dollar which often has a negative impact on stocks. And bond yields are now back to levels seen earlier in the month as investors moved to safety. So pretty impressive action in equities on a Monday with options set to expire by the close on Friday. Now we'll want to see if the bulls can hold on to these early gains and maybe even add on as the day progresses. A close above 2100 on the S&P would be very bullish.
KEY EARNINGS REPORTS
As earnings season kicks into high gear this week, I will begin listing some of the key companies scheduled to report. Our philosophy at EarningsBeats.com is to remove any stocks on the Watch List prior to their earnings reports. We do this since there is no telling how the market will respond to a company's earnings, so why take the risk? Since it's all about putting the odds in our favor then it makes sense to eliminate as many unnecessary risks as possible, so stepping aside from outcomes that are "unknown" makes a lot of sense.
Companies reporting tomorrow (July 14) include:
CSX, FAST, JNJ, JPM, WFC
NEW FEATURE
Please note that we have added a new feature on our site. It is our "Entry Price" link that you will find near the top of the Watch List page. You are now able to click on that link and it will show you the full Watch List and for each individual stock the stock symbol, date added to the Watch List, entry prices, price target and stop loss. This way you won't have to go to the annotated charts if you want a quick snapshot of key entry, target and stop losses on each stock.
ADDITIONS TO WATCH LISTS:
Over the next few weeks as earnings seasons builds we will be looking to add a lot of stocks to our Candidate Tracker. Some of these stocks will become Watch List stocks where we will be providing entry, target and stop loss levels. As usual we'll evaluate each stock individually and wait for what we feel are optimal times to enter. There's often a lag time between a company reporting earnings and making it on our list as we watch for gap ups, follow through on initial reaction, volume indicators and pullbacks, to name a few. So we'll be patient as we scan for top notch candidates as earnings season progresses to present to our members.
BRIEF COMMENTS ON SELECT WATCH LIST STOCKS:
Short Watch List:
There are no Short Watch List stocks at this time.
Large Cap Watch List
INTU - Breaking out above late June high. Next key level of resistance is near the $107.50 level.
MSFT - Up almost 2% and trying to climb back above its 20 day moving average of $45.12. Also battling trend line resistance from highs printed in May and June.
RYAAY - Been a nice winner so will maintain closing stop of $73 to protect profits
Mid Cap Watch List
GPRO - Down on an up day and needs to close back above key moving averages to get back on track
MAT - Stock is up almost 2% today. It reports earnings on Wednesday so will be coming off before then.
Small Cap Watch List
MMSI - Trying to make a breakout. We opened above closing resistance of $21.87 and volume today is decent so a strong close would be bullish. Target is $23 so will be taking profits if it gets there.
DELETIONS FROM OUR WATCH LISTS:
There are no deletions from the Watch List today unless a Watch List stock hits its stop loss.
