EB Watch List Update Report
Dear Members:
MARKET NOTE:
Just a day after it looked like the market might have seen the worst of the recent selling, the monthly non-farm payroll came out, and it was much weaker than expected. Not only did it miss expectations for September; the prior two months were revised downward as well. That was a bit much for the market to absorb, especially since some had hoped a strong report would jolt the Fed into raising rates. But instead, bond yields have taken a big tumble today, with the ten year treasury note now near 1.92%, a level not seen since April of this year, excepting the quick move down on August 24 when the market experienced the unexpected flash crash. The selling this morning shows all of the major indexes lower by more than 1% with the S&P struggling to hold 1900, but well off session lows. But now one of the most important economic reports of the month is out of the way with traders now asking, what's next? And what's next is earnings season that will kick off next week when Alcoa reports its numbers after the bell on October 8. And when everything is said and done, investors care more about earnings than just about anything else. In the meantime, should the bulls manage to hold the line today and eliminate most or all of the early losses, that would help to strengthen the argument that the worst of the selling is over. And at the moment the trading range on the S&P is 1867 to the downside and 1940 to the upside.
