EB Watch List Update Report

John Hopkins -
Dear Members: MARKET NOTE: In yesterday's update I pointed to the fact that all of the major indexes were hanging by a technical thread. Today we're seeing that play out some with both the Dow and S&P back below their respective 20 day moving averages and the NASDAQ hugging its 20 day. This comes after an in line ADP jobs report this morning preceding Friday's government non-farm payroll report and apparently has traders on guard. In fact the VIX is up almost 5% as it has moved back above both its 20 and 50 day moving averages; traders aren't so confident at the moment. We need to remember that this is the last trading day of August and the historically bearish month of September is about to begin. Maybe this has traders thinking twice today. I'm keeping a close eye on the NASDAQ which hasn't closed below its 20 day moving average in two full months. So a close below 5204 could spook traders even more. Lately the S&P has managed to rally on any pullbacks and hold the line at its its 20 day. So if the selling continues today that could change. For now the range on the S&P remains 2193 to the upside and 2150 to the downside. Not much to do while stuck in the middle of the range but see how it plays out with a goal of getting better opportunities once the dust settles.
