EB Watch List Update Report

John Hopkins -
Dear Members: MARKET NOTE: The first presidential debate has now come and gone so traders are looking to get back to business. So far the market reaction has been positive but as usual traders are much more attracted to tech stocks than blue chip stocks. Accordingly the NASDAQ remains above all key technical levels while the Dow and S&P remain below their respective 20 and 50 day moving averages. The VIX is down 7% today but don't forget it was down 15% yesterday. So less fear today than yesterday but still worry that stocks could stall here. The S&P got within 2 points of its 20 day before slowing. So what we've now got are two major indexes running into resistance at key technical levels instead of holding at key support like we saw from July to early September. In other words, we're starting to move away from buying on the dips to selling on any moves higher. The picture could change if the S&P could close back above 2170. The S&P so far has managed to hold the 2139 level which is a positive. Should that level go we're likely to see a quick trip back to 2120, a very important level of support. Bottom line at the moment: we remain range bound. The bears have not managed to inflict the damage they would like while the bulls are seeing how difficult it is to get back to the recent highs. Thus it remains a stock pickers market with an emphasis of doing whatever is necessary to protect capital.
