EB Watch List Update Report

Dear Members: MARKET NOTE: The VIX is up almost 3% today as uncertainty abounds. Just about everything traders worry about, from falling prices, to a Fed bent on raising rates, to an upcoming jobs report, to an upcoming election. And coming off of a so far uninspiring earnings season and where all of the major indexes are under fire and technically broken. The almost good news for the bulls? The market has been down six days in a row. How many times has this happened over the past 12 months? Once, and we're witnessing it today. Also, though not quite there yet, the S&P is inching closer and closer to being technically oversold. Ditto on the NASDAQ. But traders are currently opting to remain cautious other than buying on the dips. One could argue this is a good time to take on some risk but with a VIX close to 20 traders are just too scared. We're also now just a few hours away from the Fed rate announcement. No one expects the Fed to announce a hike today. Instead, traders will be looking at the words from the Fed; how many committee members are now favoring a hike in December? So far the S&P has held 2100. And so far today we've seen a higher low. Mini progress. But that could change once the Fed makes its announcement, especially if traders detect a more hawkish tone. With the VIX near 20 we have to expect a dark cloud will remain over the market, and perhaps right in to and after the election. What to watch for now? First, can the bulls keep the S&P above yesterday's low of 2097; if not, 2074 is next. To the upside, just breaking the streak of consecutive down days would be a start, so a close above 2112. And if traders start to feel like the recent selling is overdone we just might see some nibbling on the long side; it just might happen with one finger on the sell button, "just in case."
