MARKET NOTE:
Dear Members:
All of the major indexes are flat at the moment but considering yesterday's events it certainly could be worse. Traders continue to be worried with the VIX once again challenging its 200 day moving average earlier in the session. That level, currently at 13.20 needs to be taken seriously because a close above that level leaves the market vulnerable to more selling. The fact the market is holding up as well as it is points to what is most important to investors; earnings. And with earnings season about to kick off next week, traders might be willing to hold off from selling en masse with thousands of companies getting ready to report numbers over the next several weeks. I do want to point out that the S&P is back below its 20 day moving average. But the Dow and S&P remain above all key technical levels. So it's a mixed picture but by no means have the bears taken control of the market, at least not yet. However, it would be more concerning if we saw a big sell off into the weekend, so this is something we need to watch closely. The first level for the bulls to hold today is 2358 on the S&P. After that 2346. In the meantime this is one of those times to err on the side of caution, especially as the market gets ready to head into the weekend. We'll then be able to see what the market looks like come Monday morning.
