EB WatchList Update Report
Dear Members:
MARKET NOTE:
The market continues to struggle again today with both the NASDAQ and S&P technically wounded. Only the Dow is trading in positive territory today and is already well off of its session high. The VIX is well below yesterday's high when it soared 40% as traders hit the panic button. But it's still above its 20 and 50 day moving averages as traders continue to climb the wall of worry. Traders are trying to figure out if the worst of the selling is over but can also see that so far the bears have grabbed the momentum. And we've gone from sell on the dip to sell on any bounces which always makes it difficult for the bulls to make any progress. To me there are two key levels to watch on the S&P and NASDAQ, respectively. First, on the S&P, it needs to close back above 2429 which represents its 20 day moving average. And the NASDAQ needs to clear and stay above its 50 day moving average, now at 6155. The bad news for the bulls is none of the major indexes are technically oversold. This leaves the market vulnerable to additional selling. The NASDAQ got as low as 6087 yesterday while the S&P got as low as 2405. Those are now key levels of support. Right now it's just too tricky to do much of anything; best to let things play out as we head into the weekend. Then we can revisit come Monday morning.
