EB Daily Market Report and Upcoming Holiday Schedule - Tuesday, December 23, 2025
First, on behalf of our entire EarningsBeats.com team, I want to wish everyone a very happy Christmas/holiday season! If you're traveling over the next couple weeks, please be careful!
Our MarketVision 2026 event is rapidly approaching and will be held next Saturday, January 3, 2026 at 10:00am ET.
Upcoming Holiday Schedule
We will be operating on a modified, very light holiday schedule. Please note the following:
Daily Market Report (DMR) - I'll be watching the market each day and will update everyone periodically. Expect 2-3 brief DMRs between now and New Years Day.
Weekly Market Report (WMR) - There will be no WMR for next Monday, December 29th.
Weekly Portfolio Report - There will be no Weekly Portfolio Report until the weekend of January 9th.
Live Trading Room (Wednesdays) - Because Wednesday falls on Christmas Eve and New Years Eve this year, we will not be holding our Live Trading Rooms for the balance of 2025. Our next scheduled Live Trading Room will be on Wednesday, January 7, 2026.
ChartLists - Will not be updated until the weekend of Friday, January 9, 2026. There will be few earnings reports released between now and year end, so it makes sense to hold off on ChartList updates until the first full week of January.
Trading Places Live (TPL) - There will be no TPL on Tuesday, December 30th.
Mid-Week StockCharts YouTube video - At this point, I believe I will record one final end of year video on Wednesday, December 31st, that will likely be produced and published on StockCharts' YouTube channel later that day.
If you reach out to customer support between now and year end, we'll respond, but the response time might be a bit slower than normal.
Brief Market Update
We're seeing fairly typical holiday action. Based upon my research, the Santa Claus rally runs from December 21st through December 31st and the first few days of January tend to be fairly bullish as well. I'm expecting to see more all-time highs as the Volatility Index ($VIX) has worked its way down to 13.79 at last check, the lowest reading of 2025. With the VIX so low, it's unlikely to see much selling into year end. 2026 could be a different story altogether and we'll discuss that at MarketVision 2026.
6 sectors are higher today, led by energy (XLE, 0.72%) and utilities (XLU, +0.54%), while 5 sectors are lower. Consumer stocks are lagging as discretionary (XLY, -0.34%) and staples (XLP, -0.31%) struggle. Growth stocks (IWF, +0.50%) are performing well today, as semiconductors ($DJUSSC, +1.82%) bounce nicely.
Q3 GDP was delayed due to the government shutdown, but was released this morning. It came in stronger than expected at 4.3% vs. the 3.2% estimate. I'll be watching the initial jobless claims tomorrow morning, with expectations currently at 225,000.
Again, we want to wish everyone a happy holiday season!
Happy trading!
Tom
