EB Daily Market Report - Brief Update - Thursday, August 6, 2026
This will be very brief as I'm in the midst of looking at over 1600 earnings reports and company charts from the past 3 days.
It's mostly a flat day on our major indices, with one exception being the Dow Jones, which is down roughly 0.75%. Energy (XLE, +1.14%) is the only sector with a gain or loss of more than 1%, as crude oil ($WTIC, +2.57%) has rebounded to $77 per barrel. Technology (XLK, +0.06%) is slightly higher despite a number of companies in the sector with very poor earnings reactions. Sandisk Corp (SNDK, -4.91%) is well off its worst level of the day. Western Digital (WDC, -11.60%) and Applovin Corp (APP, -18.48%) are also down significantly, and another software stock, Datadog, Inc. (DDOG, -17.85%) is tumbling as well.
The 10-year treasury yield ($TNX) is on the move higher, jumping 6 basis points to 4.67%, ending the short-lived 3 day streak where the TNX fell. The U.S. Dollar (UUP, +0.28%) is trying to turn the corner after moving mostly lower the past week or so. Meanwhile, cryptocurrencies are mostly lower.
There will be another surge of companies reporting after the bell today, including Cloudflare (NET), Airbnb (ABNB), Microchip Technology (MCHP), and Twilio (TWLO). All but MCHP have shown considerable relative strength among their peers over the past quarter, so I wouldn't be surprised to see a few solid reactions tonight and into tomorrow's opening bell.
Happy trading!
Tom
